Zorbing ball refers to a sport in which a participant is secured inside an inner capsule in a large transparent ball which is then rolled down hill or along the ground. It was first established in Rotorua, New Zealand, in 1994 by Dwane van der Sluis and Andrew Askers. The two came up with an idea for a type of sphere and called it the zorb.
The zorb ball is made of two sections. One ball is inside the other with an air layer in between them. The air layer acts as a shock absorber for the participant during damping and bumping while travelling.
This zorb is usually light since it is made of flexible plastic. It usually has straps that hold the participant in place while in rolling motion. However, some zorbs do not have the straps which leave the participant free to walk around inside it or be tossed about freely by the rolling motion.
Besides rolling down hill, zorbing is also performed on gentle slopes, levelled grounds, water, and artificially built surfaces like wood. It is also performed at commercial areas like mountain resorts and parks, where a participant may have to pay a fee to play from there. This game is generally suited for outdoor activities.
