Best Ways to Clean a Dyson Vacuum Cleaner

A Dyson vacuum is quite an investment, so it’s understandable if you want to take good care of it. The better you maintain the vacuum, the longer it will last.

This article will show you all of the steps that you need to take in order to keep your Dyson in tip-top shape!

Step 1: Dump the Dust Cup’s Content

Although most Dyson vacuums have large enough dust cups to contain several days worth of dirt and debris, it’s still recommended to clean the cup after every session.

Most Dyson vacuums (especially the more recent V-series vacuums) don’t require you to remove the dust cup from the vacuum to empty. Instead, they have dirt-ejecting mechanisms. For the Dyson V10 series and up, remove the suction wand at the front and point the vacuum’s head into a trash can. Press the release button and the content of the cup will be dumped.

For older Dyson vacuums (V10 and down), hover the bottom of the dust cup above the trash can. Press the release paddle and the bottom will open up like a trap door, dumping the content.

Step 2: Clean the Dust Cup

Every once in a while, you should clean the dust cup. A dirty dust cup, if left for too long, can develop mold and bad scent. Run the dust cup through the tap and scrub it with a hearty amount of dish soap. Allow to completely dry for 24 hours before putting it back into the vacuum.

Step 3: Take Care of the Air Filters

The air filter inside of a Dyson usually doesn’t need a lot of care and attention. However, at least once every three months, take the air filter out of the vacuum and wash it with tap water. When you first put it into the water stream, the water will be brown and murky. Leave the filter there until the water becomes clear.

Once that’s done, leave the filter somewhere with plenty of airflow to dry. Wait at least 24 hours before you put it back into the vacuum. Under no circumstance should you operate the vacuum with a wet air filter.

Step 4: Clean the Brush Bar

The brush bar scrubs the floor and removes stubborn debris. It’s a big reason why Dyson vacuums are such great laminate floor cleaner machine. If you have pets in the house, a lot of hair will be tangled inside of the brush bar. They could potentially clog up the bar.

Flip the vacuum upside down and lay it on your lap so that you have easier access to the cleaning head containing the brush bar. Use a screwdriver or a coin to remove the special screws holding the cover plate. When the plate is off, you will be able to remove the brush bar from the vacuum.

Use scissors or a razor blade to cut through all of the hair tangles. Wash the brush bar with tap water while you’re at it.

Reinstall the brush bar back into the vacuum.

    Conclusion

Cleaning a Dyson is actually as easy as that! There are still a few more maintenance processes that you need to do. But, for most people, knowing these four steps and doing them regularly will work fine at keeping your Dyson’s health up.
