More agility and driving fun for MINI One, MINI Cooper and MINI Cooper S.
Munich. As of summer 2004, the fixed-head MINI models will be even more attractive. By adding refinements to the unmistakable MINI design, new colours, upholstery fabrics and wheels as well as offering optimised ergonomics and an even bigger scope for personal preferences, MINI will increase the product substance of this popular car from Oxford. In addition, a revised drivetrain will provide increased agility and driving fun.
MINI will present the fixed-head MINI models together with the MINI Cooper S Convertible for the first time at the International Motor Show in Madrid. This premiere almost coincides with the presentation at the Birmingham International Motor Show in May this year. The MINI Oxford plant will carry out the new details as from July this year. The new features will be introduced to some European countries in August this year. The other European countries will follow suit in September. The prices of the tin-top models will be adapted accordingly and will be increased by an average of less than 0.5%.
More agility and driving fun.
A new five-speed gearbox with a modified gear ratio will be used on the MINI One and MINI Cooper, adding even further to the agility of these two nimble performers.
These modifications will have an effect on the MINI One's and MINI Cooper's performance data, improving the acceleration of both models.
The MINI One accelerates in fourth gear from 80 to 120 km/h (50 to 75 mph) in 11.9 seconds. In fifth gear, the same exercise takes 14.9 seconds.
Thanks to a slightly improved torque of 150 Nm at 4,500 rpm, the MINI Cooper rockets from 0 to 62 mph in 9.1 seconds. Acceleration in fourth gear from 80 to 120 km/h (50 to 75 mph) takes 10.5 seconds. With the fifth gear in mesh, acceleration comes in 13.5 seconds.
Whilst engine output of the MINI One and MINI Cooper remain the same, the MINI Cooper S posts an increase in performance of 5 kW/7 bhp. The 1.6-litre power unit delivers a maximum output of 125 kW/ 170 bhp at
6,000 rpm, giving the MINI Cooper S a top speed of 222 km/h (138 mph).
The 0-62mph sprint takes just 7.2 seconds. Also, torque has been increased by ten Newton metres, peaking at 220 Nm at 4,000 rpm. Fuel consumption at 8.6 litres/100km, however, is truly moderate considering the power of the engine.
Athletic looks.
At the front and rear, the MINI One and MINI Cooper sport newly designed bumpers which give the two MINI models an even more distinct and athletic look. The specific bumper design of the MINI One D and MINI Cooper S has not been changed.
In addition, all MINI models will receive new headlights and rear lights with clear glass covers. The optional Xenon headlight units are encompassed by an additional ring of light spots, giving this exceptional car another sign of distinction.
New colours for the MINI.
The two new metallic paints Astro Black and Black-Eye Purple also provide fresh impetus, giving the MINI One and MINI Cooper customers a choice of six different metallic and four plain colours .
The two metallic paints Hyper Blue and Dark Silver are exclusively reserved to the MINI Cooper S. In all, the snazzy four-seater from Oxford is available in 12 different exterior colours.
Ergonomic interior.
Additional storage spaces in the centre console, ergonomic door panels with a wider arm rest, a grab handle for the front-seat passenger, a bigger rear-view mirror, a third, side-mounted sun visor on the driver's side, a comprehensive interior lights package as well as the user-friendly buttons and switches of the climate control clearly demonstrate that comfort and safety have been given top priority when designing the interior.
The Chrome Line interior package, which is available as an optional extra, gives the interior an extra touch of sporting elegance. The same applies to the optional Cockpit Chrono package offering three additional circular dials.
Side support of the standard front seats has been enhanced by increasing the height of the side sections of the seat squabs. Upholstery for the MINI One and MINI Cooper is available in 11 different fabric, fabric/leather and full leather designs.
When selecting the seat covers, which are exclusive to the MINI Cooper S top model, customers can choose between one fabric design, two fabric/leather combinations and three full leather options. In the case of four different exterior colours, the interior surfaces and the door panels are optionally available in the respective body colour.
